The (Empty) Grand Tour

I've never had much luck with timing, so naturally, I closed on this house a week before I leave on a big trip. The move will have to wait because I've got a different kind of packing to do right now. I won't make you wait for more pictures, though. Let's take a little walk through the new house.

Opening the front door, you walk right into the light-filled living room.
Here is the view from the other side of the room looking back at the front door.
The longleaf pine floors are original. The ceilings throughout the house are 11 feet.

The living room opens to the combined dining and kitchen area.

While functional, I've got a few ideas about how to improve this space.
French doors separate the two rooms.

Off the kitchen, you enter a small hallway - something that typically doesn't exists in a traditional shotgun layout. This house's layout has been modified over the years to better fit how we live today.

The cat is going to love those shelves....
The first full bath is just off the hallway behind the kitchen.

Next to that is the one and only closet. Thankfully, it's a good size.

From the hallway, you walk into the guest bedroom.

This room has a door out to the side of the house, as well as two huge windows.
Here's the other side of the room looking back towards the hallway.

In typical shotgun fashion, the first bedroom leads to the next.

This is the "Master Suite" though it technically is a touch smaller than the first bedroom.

The bedroom is open to a small hallway/dressing area.

Off that is the second full bath.
The hallway and bath were created from what was the kitchen.

Some of the kitchen cabinets remain.

From the hallway, you can walk out to the attached shed/laundry space.
Those two stalls were where the toilet and shower once lived when plumbing was first installed. Now it's just storage space with history.

Another view of the shed/laundry area. There are a few projects to be done out here...

From the shed, you walk into the backyard. Much more to come about the yard and garden, but with a 100 degree heat index today (yes, in May), it was too hot for more than just a quick photo and some watering.

So there you have it! It's 1191 square feet of interior space (not counting the shed). I know it looks like a lot of plain gray boxes right now, but hopefully these photos give you a sense of the space and all the natural light. Now I better go drag out the suitcase...
